After finishing this book, I'm glad that Charlaine Harris has decided to call it quits after another two books to be published. While I loved the first several books, the last 3 or so have not been up to par. In fact, I even said I wouldn't buy this one. I would borrow it from the library. But that didn't happen. I still bought it. Now I'm suffering, a little, from buyers remorse when I could have bought something else and enjoyed it that much more.

The plot, we all saw coming, is how to get Victor out of the picture. He's disrupting the lives of the Shreveport Vampires, making subtle threats towards Sookie and is trying to find a way to provoke Eric into an altercation to have reason to off the vamp. It felt flat. All of it. Like there was no life left in the characters.

I did like the interaction with Dermot. I think he's an interesting character. I just wish he had more time in the book. Like the rest of the series, there is one huge plot working and other subplots. Mostly just the one subplot in this, a very recycled subplot. I'm a little tired of the plot of 'Someone's out to get Sookie'.

Paranormal Romance is a favorite genre of mine. I love it. Can't get enough of it. But with Sookie, it's not really romance. She's got this righteous indignation when it comes to her beau's and it's a little off putting after book 11. Eric gets worried about her in the book and she gets mad at him for it. Of all the things she continues to accuse Eric with, she's guilty of as well. I just wanted to slap her upside the head and make her realize what a hunk she has!

I have to agree with all the other reviewers about the amount of inconsistency in this book. There seem to be a fair few in this. It seems that Harris doesn't have any sort of plan for the series when she started writing, or the inconsistency wouldn't need to be mentioned. In this, events change on how things played out in previous books that just don't add up. At all.

I'm still hoping the next two (if it is true that Harris is not counting this book) will have a good ending for the series. The first books were amazing. Let's hope she can manage to close the series with a bang.
