This was my first Sarah Dessen book. I've heard nothing but great things about her work. It came as no surprise that I would love this. And I did. Completely. It was an emotional read, but so very well written that I couldn't help but be drawn in from the first word to get lost between the pages. I barely took breaks to eat to read through. Guess who stayed up late to finish?
Loved the premise! This was more than just a romance. It is a story of learning to live again after a loss of a loved one. I really tend to go for the tearjerkers. I don't know why I love them so much. But Macy dealing with the loss of her father, or really, not dealing with it, was hard to read. I felt so bad for her. But as she starts to really live, really start to break away from all the things that truly make her unhappy, the change is so beautiful.
Delia and the Wish Catering company were so much fun to read. They really lived up the place. A little chaos seems to be what Macy needs to learn to go from trying to be perfect for everyone to just being happy herself.
Okay. So this paragraph will contain
slight spoilers. It can't be helped. Jason. I was really glad when he decided that they needed a break. He was so emotionally stunted, so closed off. He hated to show any kind of affection and he surely didn't want it spoken. I thought he was a jerk. When Macy is trying to do him a favor (work at the library) and the girls she works with are snobs (and jerks), he thinks she's not taking her job seriously enough. I wanted to strangle the guy. Then when Macy simply states she misses him, he gets upset because he things they are getting too close. Grrrrr! He doesn't deserve Macy and I'm glad that she finally starts to realize that it's okay to want things that make her feel happy, instead of miserable.
This won't be my last Sarah Dessen book. I really do like the way she writes. It was easy to read and easy to get hooked into the story. If you have not tried out this author or this book, I suggest you run to the nearest book store and get a copy!
