This was an emotional roller coaster. It wasn't a happy feel good novel. Lately, I have been reading some pretty serious YA. This was serious and depressing. But I think it was well written and a fantastic story. I like to see teens portrayed as they are, not just the good stuff, but the trouble the get into as well.

Amy was such a hard character to hate. Even as she hated herself. I didn't blame her and felt so sorry for her when Julia's mom did. Even more, I'm glad that despite her wanting to separate herself from everyone, that she was able to connect with someone, even if it wasn't who she though it might be.

This is the kind of novel everyone should read. Granted not everyone should love it, but I tend to really like the ones that tell a real story. It doesn't get more real than this and all the emotions, the pain, the grief is real. And the ending was beautiful. Sad, but very fitting. I found the ending to be just what the book needed.
