I grew up reading books like The Babysitter Club and The Boxcar Kids. Now I read Romance, Young Adult, New Adult, Paranormal, Urban Fantasy, Dystopian and any mixture of these all depending on what my mood is. I love Stephen King, Michael Connolly, JRR Tolkien, CS Lewis, Jane Austen, JK Rowling, Ilona Andrews, Patricia Briggs and many others.

Shut Out

Shut Out - Kody Keplinger I wasn't expecting to love this as much as I did. When I read the description I was ready to go on the offense when it came to Lissa since it seems that her boyfriend slowly gets replaced. But I was mistaken. Big time. I actually lost myself completely while reading this, feeling everything that Lissa felt and I'm glad I gave this a chance.

I found it a little weird at first, then intriguing, how this school has a rivalry in it's own fields. It made the war front a very interesting aspect as we see students turn on each other. It turned out to be a stroke of genius.

I'm not going to lie, at first I was a little shocked at a young adult novel talk about sex so much. But then I started to realize that while it's not suitable for the younger crowd, it is probably something that a lot of high schoolers would connect to and I was able to look at it with new eyes as I read. I was surprised with what was talked about. The girls share their own stories and I was glad to see it wasn't always glorious when they were talking about it, it was very realistic and I appreciated that.

Cash is my kind of guy. I really latched on to him and was intrigued from the first moment he entered the story. He seems like such a honorable guy. He does what he has to, not just for him, but for others and I found myself falling for this guy hard. Then I had wanted Lissa to as well. Since Randy turned out different than I thought he would be, I had hoped she would drop him fast.

Lissa's family had me pulled in as well. Her family isn't the typical family. She takes care of her family much as if she were the mom, but her devotion was touching. I really liked that her family wasn't typical. It really added to the story and I think it added to her character. This is definitely a book that needs to be picked up.
