I grew up reading books like The Babysitter Club and The Boxcar Kids. Now I read Romance, Young Adult, New Adult, Paranormal, Urban Fantasy, Dystopian and any mixture of these all depending on what my mood is. I love Stephen King, Michael Connolly, JRR Tolkien, CS Lewis, Jane Austen, JK Rowling, Ilona Andrews, Patricia Briggs and many others.

The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer

The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer - Michelle Hodkin I was really excited for this to be released. I don't want to say it was a let down, but I don't know if I was as impressed as others were. But I did enjoy the story. I was enthralled for most of it. While the ending left me feeling like something was off, I really enjoyed the rest.

It takes a while for the story to unfold. And I enjoyed that aspect of this story. I loved the mystery of figuring out just what happened to Mara and finding out what is actually going on, whether Mara is really crazy or weird things just keep happening to her. It was just a great story where everything wasn't laid out at the beginning. The book description on this is very vague. And that's a lot of the attraction. Very little is revealed about the book and going into it is a total mystery.

I felt bad for Mara. She's had some tragic things to deal with but the thing that still strikes me most how caring her family is. She has a great older brother who does his best to look after her and to keep their mother from going too far when it comes to helping Mara out.

I'm not sure about the ending. I didn't hate it, but it still didn't feel right. But, it might be one of those things I won't figure out until the next book. Yes, there will most likely be another, especially after how this one ends. While it wasn't as satisfying as I had hoped the ending would be, I'm very glad I read it. I definitely recommend this!
