I am now a firm believer that there is nothing that Gena Showalter can't do. I have loved each novel of hers I have picked up. She's an amazingly talented author who wields words with the best of them. My dear friends, Alice in Zombieland is another fantastic novel that must be read. I loved all the references to the classic Alice in Wonderland. The chapter titles had me giggling. The references in the novel itself were entertaining. Alice in Zombieland was an amazing adventure from start to finish. It was everything I had hoped for and more.
So many emotions played out in this book. Quite literally, I laughed and I cried. Rinse, repeat. But I was happy that Alice was a strong character. She was put through the ringer in this book. She didn't have this perfect life that was upturned. She had a very difficult and cut off life and then things got worse. Despite Alice living in a world were zombies exist, she felt very real.
I haven't read a lot of zombie books. To be honest, zombies aren't really my monster of choice. The zombies in this book aren't your normal run of the mill zombies. I really appreciate the different spin on the monster. And it's a nice change of pace in a genre full of wereanimals and vampires where the monsters blend together so easily. Gena Showalter's zombies do not blend. I can't fully tell you why I loved her version of zombies without spoiling it (and I'm not adding it here with a spoiler tag, because the book isn't out yet and I seriously refuse to give it away). But let me tell you, I will most definitely be reading the next one.
And what is a Showalter novel without a romance? I loved the teen angst with heartthrob Cole Holland. Cole is a yummy addition to the book and you have your normal teenage high school drama of "stay away from my man" going on. I loved the tension. I'm a sucker for it.
Really, this is just a book you need to preorder. Pronto. It's just an amazing adventure you wouldn't want to miss out on. I'm already excited for book two (I know, I know, I will have to try and be patient) and this is definitely a book that will be read more than once.
And I would just like to point out that I'm quoted for the Intertwined series in the book!! *squeeeeeeeeee!!!* My first, that I know of, in print!
