I knew this would end in a cliffhanger. I knew it. But it still ticks me off a bit. I'm not a fan of cliffhangers. Cliffhangers such as you find in this one. Others that leave the story arc hanging for another novel doesn't bother me, it's the something happened and cut! that makes me angry. But, it is a KMM novel, so it was expected, but still didn't leave me happy like a book should when I finish it.
One thing that disturbed me was how all the guys were fawning and lusting after a 14 year old girl. I think KMM does a good job of showing Dani's age in this with her maturity level. She's a hotshot know it all, or she think she does. I know I thought I was a know it all at 14 and probably just as obnoxious as she was. But the idea that these guys, who were much older than she is, wanting her was uncomfortable. Granted, they all (pretty sure) are waiting for her to grow up to a more acceptable age, but just the thought that they want her now is not cool.
The story itself was interesting. I got a kick out of Ryodan needing Dani's help. I'm still not sure if he wanted her help or if it was an excuse to keep her close since she has some abilities that mirror his own. One thing I have to give to Karen is that she knows how to plan and plot a story. I never felt like she was reaching for a way to resolve the plot and pulled something out of her ass to explain what was going on (you probably have read plenty just like that, annoying isn't it?). Once it got to the point where we get to see what it is that is going on, it all starts to make sense and I love that. I don't think there is anything better than when everything comes together so well.
I love the fever series, I do. But these damn cliffhangers don't make me happy at all. So, if you've read the fever series, you know they are coming. I contemplated waiting to read this until all three were out and released but that could take years with KMM. Years. I'm just not that patient.
