I grew up reading books like The Babysitter Club and The Boxcar Kids. Now I read Romance, Young Adult, New Adult, Paranormal, Urban Fantasy, Dystopian and any mixture of these all depending on what my mood is. I love Stephen King, Michael Connolly, JRR Tolkien, CS Lewis, Jane Austen, JK Rowling, Ilona Andrews, Patricia Briggs and many others.

The Gamble

The Gamble - Kristen Ashley I was surprised after reading this. I was expecting a cute little book that was a quick read and a light romance. This was not the case. It was a quick read, but this is not your ordinary fluffy romance novel. It had well developed characters who I could connect with and it had a great story. I almost didn't read it because the cover wasn't really catching my attention and that would have been a big mistake.

This has quite a story, I really liked this. At first it felt like there were two stories playing out and I enjoyed watching them play out and unfold. I enjoyed watching them all come together at the end. I enjoyed the internal struggle Nina had with both her current situation of a time out adventure and the hunk who is trying to convince her to stay.

I live in the Rocky Mountains and I really enjoyed a book that was set in the mountains I love. I could imagine the view from the bluffs and I could imagine what it would look like sitting on the back porch watching the sky change colors as the sun set. I think the author did a great job of showing off the landscape that Max had.

The only thing that bugged me was the nicknames. A few that felt weird were darling (I could be wrong, but I had always thought this was a southern nickname, not much for us in the west) and my lovely. But, they were small things. Endearments that just seemed weird.

But really, I'm excited to move on to the next novel, even though I had hoped it would continue with the characters we already met, but I'm sure it will be just as good.
